Q from a Pal member:

“How do I take a shower at home after surgery?  When I leave the hospital I will begin showering for the first time, post op, without a nurse nearby.”

GG Responds:

Ask a family member or friend to be nearby as you shower.  Preferably in the next room within 'ear shot'.

Have all of your shower supplies (soap, shampoo, etc) ready and within reach prior to getting into the shower. Ditto for towels, a bath mat, and slippers.

Practice turning the water on and off as well as adjusting the water temperature before you get into the shower  This is because the shower equipment will likely be different at home than in the hospital.

Gently pat the incision area dry, as your nurse has instructed you, after your shower.
