TV Show

Good News! Following up the 90 minute radio special I put together on KAZU last January, the people at our local Monterey Cable Access/Public Affairs Broadcast Company, "AMP--Access Monterey Peninsula," have agreed to air a weekly televised one-hour live CALL-IN show that I will be producing and hosting, dealing with the medical, emotional and spiritual issues with coping with cancer.

In an educational/non-profit/public affairs format and purpose, I will be hosting the "Living Options: Coping With Cancer On The Central Coast," on Monterey Cable Access Channel 24, to be aired every Tuesday night, from 6-7pm LIVE, with members of the community calling in questions for my guests which will include cancer physicians, psychotherapists who work with people with cancer, cancer survivors and patients, their caregivers, clergy, complementary healers--you name it.

The half-hour recorded pilot to kick off this weekly hour long show will be taped on June 13th, at the AMP facilities in Monterey.

For the pilot, I plan to have a "survivors" and "thrivers" theme: I hope to have Carmel Poet Laureate and cancer survivor Ric Masten; cancer survivor and facilitator of the Prostate Cancer Self-Help Group of the Central Coast, Paul Soifer; and cancer survivor Gabriella Graham, founder of PMP Pals, to talk about coping and surviving with cancer from the PATIENT'S point of view.

For the hour call in shows, I hope to have them back one at a time, in addition to the physicians, therapists, healers, and caregivers that participated in our radio special back in January.

For the first few live shows, I hope to have on Dana Calhoon, Coordinator of the Comprehensive Cancer Program at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital; Dr. Tony Shaheen, Urologist and expert on Prostate Cancer, out of Monterey associated with CHOMP; Dr. Laura Stampleman, Oncologist and expert on Breast Cancer, out of Salinas, associated with Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital; Dr. Richard Shapiro, Oncologist and expert on Lung Cancer and Lymphoma, associated with Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz; Dr. Patrick Flanigan, Oncologist and poet associated with Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital; Sandy Kahn, LMFT, therapist, cancer survivor and support group/retreat leader, associated with CHOMP; Linda Sue Marshall, LMFT, therapist and support group leader, associated with Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, Randy Stein, a pancreatic cancer survivor and his wife/caregiver, Judy; Dr. Ralph Berberich, Pediatrician, Cancer Survivor and author of "Hit Below The Belt," associated with Alta Bates Medical Center, in Berkeley; and on and on.......24 weeks of programming from June to the end of the year. I hope you will spread the word and come join us.

Also, I have the opportunity of having cancer survivors trained to produce the show on their own--with AMP providing the facilities and equipment.

If you have ever been interested in learning how do to work a tv camera or operate a sound microphone and are interested in donating your time to be trained to actually produce the show (working the cameras, lighting, sound, make up) which would entail a weekly one to two hour committment (cancer survivors producing a show on cancer surviving for the community) please call me or email me at the contact info given below.

I am very excited that AMP is willing to give "Living Options: Coping With Cancer On The Central Coast," a shot. I know we can  make a difference: community people helping community people through community public access: creating that win-win-win situation. That's what it's all about!!
